Q3241.
The average of thirteen numbers is 57. The average of first three numbers is 48, and that of the next seven numbers is 58. The 11th number is two times the 12th number and 12th number is 3 less than the 13th number. What is the average of the 11th and 13th numbers?
  1. A18
  2. B72
  3. C27
  4. D36
Show answer

Concept: Total=average×count; subtract known parts to get the rest.

  1. Whole total 13×57=741; known part 3×48+7×58=144+406=550.
  2. Last three sum to 741−550=191.
  3. Take 12th = a: 2a+a+(a+3)=191⇒a=47.
  4. 11th = 94, 13th = 50 → average 94+502=72.

Trick: Use deviations: first 3 are 9×3=27 below 57, next 7 are 7 above → last three = 3×57+27−7=191.

Answer: (B) 72

  3. 12वीं = a लें: 2a+a+a+3=191⇒a=47।

The LCM of 40, 20, 120 and 335 is:
  1. A8101
  2. B8040
  3. C8003
  4. D7991
Show answer

Concept: LCM = product of the highest powers of all primes.

  1. 40 and 20 both divide 120, so only 120 and 335 matter.
  2. 120=23·3·5, 335=5·67.
  3. LCM=120×67=8040.

Trick: LCM must be divisible by 40 and 120 → must end in 0 and be even; only 8040 fits.

Answer: (B) 8040

  2. 120=23·3·5, 335=5·67।

Concept: Same direction → relative speed = difference; distance = sum of lengths.

  1. Relative speed = 120−60=60 km/h =503 m/s.
  2. Distance = 150+350=500 m.
  3. Time=500÷503=30 s =0.5 min.

Trick: 60 km/h = 1 km per minute = 1000 m/min → 500 m takes 12 minute.

Answer: (D) 0.5

A man sold an article for ₹216, there by gaining 20%. The cost of the article (in ₹) was:
  1. A172
  2. B180
  3. C270
  4. D260
Show answer

Concept: SP=CP×(100+gain%)100, so CP=SP×100100+gain%.

  1. CP=216×100120.
  2. =216×56=180.

Trick: 20% gain =15 → SP = 6 parts; 216÷6=36; CP = 5×36=180.

Answer: (B) 180

अवधारणा: CP=SP×100100+लाभ%।

  1. CP=216×100120।
  2. =216×56=180।

A washing machine is marked at ₹30,000. A customer gets two successive discounts of 20% and 10%. What is the final price (in ₹) that the customer has to pay?
  1. A23,400
  2. B22,800
  3. C22,900
  4. D21,600
Show answer

Concept: Apply discounts one after another on the reduced price.

  1. Net factor = 0.8×0.9=0.72.
  2. Price = 30000×0.72 = ₹21,600.

Trick: 20% and 10% together = 20+10−20×10100=28% → 72% of 30000.

Answer: (D) 21,600

Q3260.
Mukund invests a sum of ₹5400 and Sachin invests a sum of ₹9400 at the same rate of simple interest per annum. If, at the end of 5 years, Sachin gets ₹960 more interest than Mukund, then find the rate of interest per annum (in percentage).
  1. A3.8
  2. B6.8
  3. C2.8
  4. D4.8
Show answer

Concept: With the same rate and time, extra interest comes only from extra principal.

  1. Extra principal = 9400−5400 = ₹4000.
  2. Interest on ₹4000 for 5 years at R% must be ₹960, i.e. 4000·5·R100 equals 960.
  3. So R=960÷200=4.8% per annum.

Trick: Interest per year on 4000 = 9605=192 → 1924000×100=4.8%.
