Karnataka has changed its buffer zone rules around lakes, ponds, and other water bodies — and the impact could be huge.

Earlier, the National Green Tribunal (NGT) had uniform buffer zones for all water bodies, protecting wetlands, controlling floods, and filtering pollution naturally.

Now, under the new rules, small water bodies (under 5500 sq ft) will have no buffer zone at all, and larger ones will have reduced zones based on size.

Environmental experts warn this could increase flood risks, water pollution, and damage biodiversity. The government says it’s for development and population needs.

Is this a smart move or an environmental disaster in the making? Watch till the end to decide.
