UP Police Jail Warder (Bandi Rakshak): Overview

UP Police Jail Warder (called Bandi Rakshak or Jail Warder) is a Class 12-level government job in the Uttar Pradesh prison department. Recruitment is done by the Uttar Pradesh Police Recruitment and Promotion Board (UPPRPB), Lucknow, through its official website uppbpb.gov.in. In recent years, Jail Warder posts (male and female) have been filled along with Constable posts through one common written exam.

Status on 4 November 2026: The latest Jail Warder recruitment was part of UPPRPB's combined Constable and equivalent posts Direct Recruitment 2025 (32,679 posts), and its final result came out on 14 October 2026. A new Jail Warder notification has not been released yet. Fireman posts were not part of the 2025 advertisement.

Earlier, UPPRPB ran a separate recruitment for Jail Warder, Fireman and Horse Rider (Ghudsawar). The 2018 notice of that kind listed 3,638 Jail Warder posts (3,012 men, 626 women) and 1,679 Fireman posts. In the 2025 cycle there was no Fireman post.

In April 2026 the UP Government announced 81,000+ police posts for 2026-27 and named Jail Warder among upcoming recruitments, but no vacancy number or notification for Jail Warder has been published so far.

Selection stages (2025 cycle)

• Written exam (objective, OMR, 300 marks)
• Document Verification (DV) and Physical Standard Test (PST)
• Physical Efficiency Test (PET), qualifying only
• Final merit list, then medical examination and character verification
