Q1.
Which of the following Acts was enacted by the British Parliament to regulate the administration of the British East India Company’s territories in India, particularly in Bengal?
  1. ACharter Act, 1813
  2. BGovernment of India Act, 1858
  3. CRegulating Act, 1773
  4. DPitt’s India Act, 1784
Show answer

Concept: The Regulating Act, 1773 was the first step taken by the British Parliament to control and regulate the affairs of the East India Company in India.

  1. It made the Governor of Bengal the Governor-General of Bengal (Warren Hastings) with a council of four, and placed Bombay and Madras under Bengal's supervision.
  2. It set up the Supreme Court at Calcutta (1774).
  3. Pitt's India Act (1784) came later and created the Board of Control; the Act of 1858 transferred power to the Crown.

Yaad rakhein: 1773 = Regulating, 1784 = Pitt's, 1813, 1833, 1853 = Charter Acts, 1858 = Crown rule.

Answer: (C) Regulating Act, 1773

(C) Regulating Act, 1773

Q41.
Solve the system of equations below for X, Y and Z:
X+2Y+4Z=12
2X+2Y+3Z=10
3X+2Y+Z=8
X+2Y+4Z=12
2X+2Y+3Z=10
3X+2Y+Z=8
  1. AX = −2, Y = 7, Z = 0
  2. BX = 0, Y = 2, Z = 2
  3. CX = −2, Y = −1, Z = 4
  4. DX = −2, Y = 1, Z = 3
Show answer

Concept: Eliminate one variable by subtracting equations; here Y has the same coefficient in all three.

  1. Equations: X+2Y+4Z=12 …(i), 2X+2Y+3Z=10 …(ii), 3X+2Y+Z=8 …(iii).
  2. (ii) − (i): X−Z=−2; (iii) − (ii): X−2Z=−2.
  3. Subtracting: Z=0, so X=−2.
  4. From (i): −2+2Y=12⇒Y=7.

Trick: In an exam, just plug each option into (iii): 3(−2)+2(7)+0=8 ✓ only for option A.

Answer: (A) X=−2, Y=7, Z=0

  1. समीकरण: X+2Y+4Z=12 …(i), 2X+2Y+3Z=10 …(ii), 3X+2Y+Z=8 …(iii)।
  2. (ii) − (i): X−Z=−2; (iii) − (ii): X−2Z=−2।
  4. (i) से: −2+2Y=12⇒Y=7।

उत्तर: (A) X=−2, Y=7, Z=0

Q71.
Refer to the following letter, symbol series and answer the question. Counting to be done from left to right only
(Left) B R © # # # W & S @ Z @ @ A & L @ @ I © O © (Right)
How many such letters are there each of which is immediately preceded by a letter and also immediately followed by a symbol?
(बाएँ) B R © # # # W & S @ Z @ @ A & L @ @ I © O © (दाएँ)
  1. A2
  2. B1
  3. C0
  4. D3
Show answer

Concept: We need the pattern letter – LETTER – symbol: the middle letter must have a letter on its left and a symbol on its right.

  1. Series: B R © # # # W & S @ Z @ @ A & L @ @ I © O ©
  2. Scan each letter: R has B before and © after ✓.
  3. W, S, Z, A, L, I, O all have a symbol just before them ✗.

Trick: Only look at letters that come in pairs (two letters side by side); here only 'B R' qualifies, then check the right side.

Answer: (B) 1

B R © # # # W & S @ Z @ @ A & L @ @ I © O ©
  3. W, S, Z, A, L, I, O
