CTET 2026: Overview

The Central Teacher Eligibility Test (CTET) is a national teacher eligibility test conducted by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE). It is not a recruitment exam. Passing CTET makes you eligible to apply for teacher posts in Classes 1 to 8 in central government schools such as Kendriya Vidyalayas (KVS) and Navodaya Vidyalayas (NVS), and in other schools that accept the CTET score. The qualifying certificate is now valid for life.

Two papers

  • Paper I: for those who want to teach Classes 1 to 5 (Primary Teacher).
  • Paper II: for those who want to teach Classes 6 to 8 (Elementary / Upper Primary Teacher).
  • You may take one paper or both papers in the same session.

Stages

CTET has only one stage: the written test. There is no interview. You must score at least 60% to qualify; reserved categories get a concession (see the Cut-off tab). Actual teacher jobs are filled later through separate recruitment by KVS, NVS, state boards and schools.

Current status (as of 4 November 2026)

The 22nd edition of CTET was first fixed for 6 September 2026. It was postponed after Supreme Court directions on TET requirements, and CBSE's public notice dated 14 September 2026 moved it to 12 and 13 December 2026. The previous session (February 2026) was held on 7 and 8 February 2026 and its result came out on 30 March 2026.
