SSC CGL Salary 2026

SSC CGL Salary

CGL posts are paid under the 7th Central Pay Commission pay matrix, from Pay Level 4 to Pay Level 8. The table shows the pay ranges given in the CGL 2026 notice. In-hand salary is higher than the basic pay because you also get Dearness Allowance (DA), House Rent Allowance (HRA, which depends on the city), Transport Allowance and other allowances. You are covered by the National Pension System (NPS) or a newer central pension scheme, depending on the rules in force when you join.

Pay Level	Pay range (Rs per month)	Example posts
Level 8	47,600 – 1,51,100	Assistant Audit Officer, Assistant Accounts Officer
Level 7	44,900 – 1,42,400	Inspector of Income Tax, Inspector (CGST / Examiner / Preventive Officer), ASO (CSS / MEA / Railways), Assistant Enforcement Officer, SI (CBI), Inspector of Posts
Level 6	35,400 – 1,12,400	Junior Statistical Officer, Statistical Investigator Gr-II, SI (NIA), Divisional Accountant, Assistant (other ministries)
Level 5	29,200 – 92,300	Auditor, Accountant
Level 4	25,500 – 81,100	Postal / Sorting Assistant, Tax Assistant, SSA / UDC

Points to note

The first figure in each range is the starting basic pay. Basic pay goes up with annual increments and promotions.
Your actual salary depends on the city of posting, because HRA is different for X, Y and Z class cities. It also depends on the current DA rate and on deductions such as NPS and tax.
Field posts such as Inspector and SI may come with extra allowances, as the department's rules allow.
Promotions follow each department's rules. For example, an ASO in CSS can be promoted to Section Officer.

We have not listed exact in-hand amounts because they change with DA revisions. Check the current DA order from the Department of Expenditure for up-to-date figures.
