SSC CGL 2026: Overview

The Combined Graduate Level Examination (CGL) is conducted every year by the Staff Selection Commission (SSC), Government of India, to recruit graduates into Group B and Group C posts in central ministries, departments and organisations. It is one of the biggest graduate-level government recruitment exams in India.

Posts filled through CGL include Assistant Audit Officer, Assistant Section Officer, Inspector of Income Tax, Inspector (Central Excise / Examiner / Preventive Officer), Assistant Enforcement Officer, Sub-Inspector in CBI and NIA, Junior Statistical Officer, Statistical Investigator Grade-II, Auditor, Accountant, Postal / Sorting Assistant, Senior Secretariat Assistant / UDC and Tax Assistant, among others. Pay ranges from Pay Level 4 to Pay Level 8.

Selection stages

• Tier-I: computer-based exam (CBE), qualifying and used to shortlist for Tier-II.
• Tier-II: computer-based exam. Paper I is for all posts. It includes a Computer Knowledge Test and a Data Entry Speed Test (DEST), which you must pass but which do not add to your score. Paper II (Statistics) is for JSO / Statistical Investigator. Paper III (Finance and Economics) is for AAO / AAcO.
• Document verification and allocation: posts are allotted on Tier-II merit and the preferences you submit online. Some posts also have physical and medical standards, which the department checks.
