SSC CHSL Eligibility (2026)

Nationality

You must be a citizen of India, a subject of Nepal or Bhutan, or a person of Indian origin who migrated from certain specified countries to settle permanently in India. Candidates in the last three groups need a Government of India eligibility certificate before they can be appointed.

Educational qualification (as on 07.10.2026)

Post	Qualification
LDC / JSA	Class 12 pass or equivalent from a recognised board / university
DEO / DEO Grade 'A' (most departments)	Class 12 pass or equivalent
DEO / DEO Grade 'A' in the Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food & Public Distribution, SSC and the Ministry of Culture	Class 12 in the Science stream with Mathematics

Your result must be declared on or before the cut-off date. Qualifications from open or distance learning count only if the institution was recognised for the relevant period.

Age limit (as on 01.08.2026)

18 to 27 years. You must have been born between 02.08.1999 and 01.08.2008, both dates included.

Ex-Servicemen	3 years after deducting military service
Central Govt civilian employees	Up to 40 years (45 for SC/ST)
Widows / divorced / judicially separated women (not remarried)	Up to 35 years (40 for SC/ST)

Other points

You can apply in only one category. If you are unsure which category you can claim, read the notice carefully.
For the skill test you must know typing (LDC/JSA) or data entry (DEO).
Candidates who qualify for a scribe get extra time, as set out in the notice.
