Pay and status by post
| Post | Pay level | Pay scale | Classification |

| SI (GD), CAPFs (BSF, CISF, CRPF, ITBP, SSB) | Level 6 | Rs 35,400 to 1,12,400 | Group B, Non-Gazetted, Non-Ministerial |

What you receive
Your starting basic pay at Level 6 is Rs 35,400. On top of it you get the allowances that central government rules allow for your post and place of posting, such as Dearness Allowance (DA), House Rent Allowance (HRA) or government housing, and Transport Allowance. Some CAPF postings carry extra allowances under force rules.
Take-home pay changes with the posting city, the force and the current DA rate, so it is not the same for everyone. The official notice gives only the pay level and scale, not an in-hand figure.
Why the post is valued
- Supervisory rank: an SI ranks above Constables and Head Constables and is the entry level for graduates in the police chain of command.
- Group B status in CAPFs: SI (GD) and SI (Fire) are Group B (Non-Gazetted) posts.
- Career growth: you can be promoted to Inspector and higher ranks under the rules of each force.
Pay and allowances can change with government orders and future pay commissions. Check the latest orders of the Ministry of Home Affairs and your force.
