BPSC TRE Eligibility 2026

BPSC TRE 4.0: Eligibility

Nationality and domicile

Applicants must be Indian citizens.
In August 2025 the Bihar cabinet approved a domicile policy that reserves 85% of school teacher posts for native residents of Bihar. Check Advt. No. 15/2026 for exactly how this applies to TRE 4.0.

Educational and training qualification

Level	Broad requirement
Classes 1–5	Senior Secondary (Class 12) plus the prescribed teacher training, such as D.El.Ed. or B.El.Ed.
Classes 6–8	Graduation plus teacher training (such as B.Ed. or D.El.Ed.) as per rules
Classes 9–10	Graduation in the relevant subject plus B.Ed., and the prescribed eligibility test
Classes 11–12	Post-graduation in the relevant subject plus B.Ed., as prescribed

Exact subject-wise rules follow NCTE norms and are listed in the advertisement.

Teacher eligibility test

Candidates must hold a CTET, BTET or STET certificate as prescribed for the level they apply for.
Generally, CTET/BTET Paper I is for primary, CTET/BTET Paper II for middle, and Bihar STET (Paper I / Paper II) for secondary and higher secondary posts. Confirm this in the advertisement.

Age limit

Primary and Middle teacher	18 years	37 years (general)
Secondary and Higher Secondary teacher	21 years	37 years (general)

The age reference date was reported as 1 January 2026 under the August 2026 advertisement; check whether Advt. No. 15/2026 changed it. Age relaxation applies for reserved categories, women, PwD and other groups as per Bihar government rules.

Important to remember

You must meet the qualification, eligibility test and age rules on the cut-off date in the advertisement.
Certificates are checked at document verification. A wrong claim can lead to cancellation at any stage.
