RRB ALP Salary
An Assistant Loco Pilot is placed in Pay Level 2 of the 7th Central Pay Commission (CPC) pay matrix. The initial (basic) pay is ₹19,900 per month, as stated in both CEN 01/2026 and CEN 01/2025.

What this means for you
- Your take-home pay will be more than the basic pay, because allowances are added on top. The exact amount depends on the current DA rate and your city of posting (for HRA).
- Running staff such as ALPs also get allowances linked to train running duty under railway rules. The CEN does not give these amounts, so we do not quote a figure.
- You are a regular central government employee with benefits such as the pension scheme in force, medical facilities for you and your family, and railway passes, as per rules.
Career growth
ALP is the entry post for train-driving staff. With experience, training and departmental tests, ALPs move up to Loco Pilot grades as per railway promotion rules.
Note: Ignore anyone who quotes a fixed "in-hand salary" as official – RRBs publish only the pay level and initial pay in the notice.
