RRB ALP Syllabus (CEN 01/2026)

The syllabus below is taken from the detailed CEN. Questions are of 10th-standard level for science and of ITI/DGT level for the trade test.

CBT-1

  • Mathematics: Number system, BODMAS, decimals, fractions, LCM and HCF, ratio and proportion, percentages, mensuration, time and work, time and distance, simple and compound interest, profit and loss, algebra, geometry and trigonometry, elementary statistics, square root, age calculations, calendar and clock, pipes and cisterns.
  • Mental Ability: Analogies, alphabetical and number series, coding and decoding, mathematical operations, relationships, syllogism, jumbling, Venn diagram, data interpretation and sufficiency, conclusions and decision making, similarities and differences, analytical reasoning, classification, directions, statements – arguments and assumptions.
  • General Science: Physics, Chemistry and Life Sciences of 10th standard level.

Note: CEN 01/2026 does not list General Awareness / Current Affairs for CBT-1 (the 2025 cycle did).

CBT-2 Part A

  • Mathematics and General Intelligence & Reasoning: same topics as CBT-1, at a slightly higher level.
  • Basic Science and Engineering: Engineering drawing (projections, views, drawing instruments, lines, geometric figures, symbolic representation), units and measurements, mass, weight and density, work, power and energy, speed and velocity, heat and temperature, basic electricity, levers and simple machines, occupational safety and health, environment education, IT literacy.

CBT-2 Part B (trade test)

  • Questions come from the DGT (Directorate General of Training) syllabus of the relevant ITI trade (see dgt.gov.in).
  • ITI holders answer from their own trade. Diploma and Degree holders choose a trade from the grouping list in the CEN that matches their branch (Mechanical, Electrical, Electronics or Automobile).

CBAT

The Computer Based Aptitude Test is a psychological aptitude test for train-driving staff. The CEN gives no book syllabus for it. RDSO's CBAT information pages explain the test batteries, and RRBs release a mock link before the test.

Preparation tips

  • Revise NCERT Class 9–10 science for General Science.
  • Practise speed maths – 75 questions in 60 minutes is less than a minute per question.
  • For Part B, study your ITI trade theory book well; it is only qualifying (35%) but you must clear it.
